Philip holds a degree in Economics from Victoria University of Wellington and is a Chartered Accountant in public practice. Prior to founding Axiome, his experience included roles in the economics and accounting departments of the Reserve Bank; as finance manager and then practice manager of law firm Chapman Tripp’s Auckland office; and as a founding director and shareholder of another asset management business in Auckland.
Providing a service to clients combining broad finance experience, detailed knowledge of trusts and taxation, together with evidence-based investment strategies was a market opportunity Philip identified as not often available within one firm. Whether the need is to maximise income or business profits, being confident about the prudent stewardship of family wealth, or understanding investment returns and retirement cash flows, this integrated approach has proved its value.
Philip was the convenor of the Institute of Chartered Accountants investment special interest group for many years. He also was a member of an Accounting Standards Working Group that drafted a standard of practice for financial advice provided by accountants.
In 2014 he qualified as an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) and practiced as a Financial Adviser before moving Axiome into the current FMA licensing regime.
A love of boating, skiing and a habit of ‘over-renovating’ houses has absorbed leisure time in recent years. Notwithstanding the empty nest status that comes with having three adult children, family time remains full including active involvement with grandchildren.
